CHS Food Services ADO Phaseout - Consultation Meetings Start Today

Members will recall the past two newsletters sent out about the proposed CHS Food Services ADO Phaseout:

Initially, CHS Food Services Management refused to consult on the phaseout of ADOs within the Food Services department. The HSU then lodged an application in the Fair Work Commission about this issue, and management has now agreed to undertake consultation as required.

On 17 November 2020, CHS Food Services Management provided the HSU with:

Late yesterday, HSU Organiser Mark Jay and Industrial Officer Ed Yap had a meeting with CHS Food Services Management. A summary of the discussion follows below:

  • HSU stated that we were concerned that the meetings were being rushed through, and that rushing consultation without providing relevant information is not genuinely seeking the views of members.
  • Many members have informed HSU they are upset about CHS Management appearing to try to push through the ADO Phaseout proposal without consulting members.
  • All members who have participated in the HSU’s ADO Phaseout Survey said that they disagree with the ADO Phaseout and feel that it would undermine work/life balance.
  • CHS Food Services Management said that the ADO Phaseout was to remedy a deficit in the budget.
  • HSU stated that there may be other ways to remedy a deficit in the budget than to phase out a 30+ year old ADO entitlement.

HSU requests to CHS Food Services Management were:

  1. The meetings to be held this and next week to be only a first meeting with employees, seeking questions and feedback only.
  2. To provide further answers, information and documents arising from the questions and feedback in the coming weeks.
  3. To hold further meetings after answers, information and documents are provided.
  4. To continue advertising vacancies under the status quo – that is with ADO.

CHS Food Services Management have agreed to Requests 1, 2 and 3 but not 4.
