Cumberland: Boronia Unit Update

HSU delegates and representatives have been attending regular meetings with the WSLHD Mental Health Executive regarding the opening of the new Boronia Unit.

We have now been advised that Western Sydney LHD will receive handover of the new building from the builders on 30 November and are aiming for the Unit to be operational from 3 December, four days later.

Your Union have raised concerns around the tightness of this timeframe, as we still need answers to a number of issues, including:

  1. Models of Care
  2. Allied Health staffing levels
  3. Environmental Services staffing levels and work schedules

The HSU WHS Manager, your Organiser and delegate recently conducted a WHS inspection and have now provided the Mental Health Executive with our findings. You can view a copy of this email at this link.

The Mental Health Executive is now required to respond and provide the Union with solutions they will implement to resolve the WHS concerns raised.

If management fail to respond, or do not provide adequate solutions, we will assess all available options under the Award and the Work Health and Safety Act.

For more information, contact your local workplace delegates or your HSU Organiser Brendan Roberts via brendan.roberts@hsu.asn.au or 0425 181 361.

As a Union, we demand a safe workplace for all. The more staff we represent, the greater our powers and effectiveness. That’s why it’s more important now than ever to be part of your Union.
