Cumberland Hospital: Update re COVID-19 changes

Over the weekend, the HSU received notification from Cumberland Hospital management to advise of their intention to convert the Boronia Unit into a “red” ward for mental health patients who have been diagnosed COVID-positive.

This comes after members raised concerns with the Union over the past week about the lack of communication from management about changes being implemented as a result of COVID-19, as well as a failure to notify staff of potential exposures.

The main theme we’ve been hearing from members is a lack of communication and consistent messaging, resulting in greater confusion and concern.

To give members an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions and talk about how to push management to communicate openly and with respect.
