Hunter Corporate Catering Members Seek Answers

During a recent HSU visit to Hunter Corporate Catering, members raised several workplace concerns, including vacant positions, uniform allocation, and the temporary changes in shift times due to COVID-19.

On behalf of members, your HSU Organiser has written to HealthShare Commercial Operations Manager Food Production. Their responses appear below.

Vacant positions

  • The recruitment process is well under way for two new staff, we are hoping to have staff on board soon.
  • Vacant truck driver, this has been restructured to be more efficient as they were sending nearly empty trucks to some sites. HCC only require 1 truck driver and we have back up options with staff with MR licences. The role is now an additional kitchen hand which is being recruited for.

Car Pooling

  • Is now allowed as long as staff are double vaccinated, as per the attached. This may have not been communicated, but will ensure it now is.

Change of shift times

  • This was out in place as part of the Covid Business Continuity Plan, for staff resilience. As NSW Health is still on “Red Alert” this will remain in place for a while longer.
  • As part of the risk assessment and Covid Safe Protocols, this measure and others at Hunter Corporate Catering makes them a low/medium risk. So if a positive Covid case did arise we would only be shut for 48 hours. This is important to ensure we can still get food to the hospitals especially up far North and rural locations. The alternative would be potentially shutting for longer which could impact supply to patients. Without these measures we could be medium/high risk which could mean anywhere from 5 -14 days closure with a positive case.


  • We will look into this and endeavour to supply the staff with thermal wear and jumpers (for outside of the production areas the jumpers). Happy to action this request as soon as we can.
  • Thermal jackets and gloves are available to all staff at all times also. With spare jackets if required.
