Today, IRT announced that it would be reviewing cleaning services across the entire organisation. This includes those services that were outsourced to contract cleaning companies prior to IRT taking over those facilities.
This process will take some months and will commence with a series of workshops with employees. I am encouraging members to participate in these to make sure management knows the work you do every day to support residents.
I have to say I think that IRT is off the mark. COVID-19 has shown just how important tight infection control measures need to be. Cleaners at IRT have worked incredibly hard – as has everyone – and should be applauded not reviewed.
More broadly, every person who works within residential aged care is part of the care and support of residents – and for this reason no role should be outsourced. The HSU will firmly be putting this to IRT throughout this process.
