John Hunter Hospital: Claims to permanency and more hours

Late last year, Union members at John Hunter won a big victory against insecure and unstable employment by successfully exercising their rights to claim permanency under the Award.

The Union is conducting a quick survey to assess how satisfied members are with the process to date and to inform future discussions with the employer.

The survey can be completed here:

It should be remembered that while this was a black and white entitlement under the Award, it was only through the hard work of Union members and delegates that these workers now have stability in their employment.

Over-casualisation and underemployment are two of the most fundamental threats to the Australian workforce. What has taken place at the John Hunter is a much-needed step in the right direction towards ending insecure employment.

If you know someone who hasn’t yet joined the Union, encourage them to take the plunge today. Only when we stand together can we end exploitative practices. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
