Mayo Private Hospital: WHS Concerns & Rights to Consultation

Your union has been informed that Mayo Private Hospital is proposing major workplace changes without consultation with members. Our understanding is that these changes are being imposed primarily in the Kitchens and Catering departments without due consideration of employees’ concerns, affecting job descriptions, rosters, and the hospital’s overall work system.

Your Union is concerned these changes could also impact health and safety for staff, patients and visitors throughout the hospital, creating:

  • Hazardous storage and unsafe exposure to sharp objects
  • Slip and fall hazards

Under your Enterprise Agreement, you have a right to consultation about major workplaces changes. Additionally, under the Work Health and Safety Act, your employer has a duty of care towards employee and patient safety.

If you and your colleagues believe these obligations aren’t being met by Mayo Private Hospital and you want to take action, please email your organiser at [E-Mail not displayed]. By standing together, we can make sure your workplace rights and safety are protected.

Our effectiveness and negotiation power depends on the strength and density of our membership. If you know someone who isn’t yet an HSU member, now is the time to talk to them about joining their workmates and making a difference.

New members can join online at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 HSU NSW and join over the phone.
