Port Macquarie Base Hospital: Update on violent incident

The HSU has been actively pursuing Mid North Coast LHD to undertake an independent investigation into the violent incident at Port Macquarie Base Hospital that left five HSU members severely injured on the 9th of January. As you may be aware, a delegation of members met with the Minister for Health in February and put all concerns around the state of security at PMBH to him.

The HSU has received email correspondence from MNCLHD management that an independent investigation is being conducted, and that no manager working for MNCLHD is involved in the panel conducting the investigation.

This is positive news, and congratulations are due to members who took a stand in support of your health workers at PMBH. However, vigilance should be maintained until our demands for a safe workplace are met. Don’t stop talking to your colleagues about this ongoing battle and encourage them to join to participate in further action when needed. Most importantly, encourage your colleagues to join the HSU at www.hsu.asn.au/join – we’re stronger when we stand together.

The HSU will continue to fight to ensure that proper protections are in place for all members.
