This month’s meeting is being held on the eve of the final day by which all NSW Health Employees must have received their first COVID-19 vaccination unless medically exempt, under the State Government’s Public Health Order. Being unvaccinated means that you will not meet the inherent requirements of your employment and may be terminated. Fortunately, the majority of NSLHD employees have been fully vaccinated.

As you know, the pressure on hospitals is yet to peak. You are all working very hard and many of you are working extra shifts to help staff the hospital. Some clinicians and others may be working in areas other than those in which they normally work, while some may be voluntarily undertaking training in “proning” COVID patients to assist nursing staff in this heavy work. For those of you working in COVID wards, ICU and ED, we recognise the demands you face. For those working in non-COVID areas, we recognise that you are also very busy and may be called upon to assist in COVID hot zones. The demands are ever-changing, but there is an end in sight.

The HSU wants to ensure its members are kept safe and that your fatigue and stress is properly accommodated. Please bring any issues of concern to the meeting so that you are fully supported by your Union and encourage your fellow health workers to attend.

If you are unable to attend but need advice, please contact HSU Organiser Denise O’Shaughnessy via [E-Mail not displayed] or the HSU Member Services Division via 1300 478 679. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join.
