Thompson Health Care: Is your time valuable?

Is your time valuable? The HSU believes that it is.

Members at some Thompson Health Care sites have reported that they have been given online training to complete each month and, if completed in their own time, are not being paid.

Health Services Union representatives have been told by Thompson management that the online education modules that are sent out by email each month (generally 2-4 modules each time) are not mandatory. Therefore, Thompson take the position that they are not required to pay you if you complete them in your own time.

If Thompson is not required to pay you, you are not required to complete them.

These modules that are sent by email from “bridgeapp” have been explained to the HSU as being for staff’s personal development and encouraged.

If you are happy to complete these modules or are able to complete them during paid work hours, the HSU encourages you to do so. However, you should not feel obliged to do so in your own time. Your time is valuable.

If you are being pressured into completing online training, please get in contact with your local HSU delegate, organiser or call the HSU Member Services Division on 1300 478 679.

Know someone who isn’t a member? If you know a workmate who is not yet a member of the HSU, encourage them to join now. New members should join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679. When we stand together, we can make sure our voices are heard at work.
