This Friday marks 12 months since HSU members lodged our historic Work Value Case in the Fair Work Commission, demanding 25% increase to award rates of pay.
On that day, we launched our Fight For 25 and united to fight for a better future.
12 months on as our Work Value Case continues at the Fair Work Commission, I am very concerned that for many members in aged care, working conditions have gone backwards and the sector is in crisis.
Understaffing, under-resourcing, and undervaluing the aged care workforce – these were the very issues the Aged Care Royal Commission highlighted in its final report, and yet they remain commonplace. Meanwhile, under the cover of the pandemic, bargaining for better wages in aged care is almost non-existent.
Things have to change now.
All members are invited to a campaign meeting this Thursday night – the eve of our Work Value Case anniversary – about how we take on understaffing and wages right now.
If you have a particular question for the meeting, please email [E-Mail not displayed] to make sure it’s covered.
This meeting is about resetting the agenda, taking back control, and addressing the fundamental issues that plague aged care. It’s important that your workplace is represented, so I encourage members to talk with each other about who can attend.
