WHS Win at Estia Health Bexley Park

We won!

As you know, members who use the dishwashers in the servery sections reported in early November that they were experiencing severe back and wrist pain due to the awkward positions they must assume in completing their daily tasks – see earlier newsletter at this link.

The HSU contacted the management of Estia Health Bexley Park immediately. As a result, management undertook a hazardous manual handling risk assessment for the servery area. On 10 December, management sent an email with the 14-page risk assessment report attached and confirmed the below:

“We have decided to reposition the dishwasher at waist height to minimise the bending for our GSOs. We will inform you the timeframe for this work once we confirm with our contractors.”

Management also stated they will consult with their contractors and contact HSU with the timeframe for the repositioning of the dishwashers. We will keep you updated whenever we hear from them.

Well done for speaking up for yourself and your workmates. As previously mentioned, the issue was raised by members working in the care stream as well as the GSO stream. This is a great example of workers uniting to have a greater power for change. We are always stronger together.
