Win for Calvary Bruce Medical Imaging members

Members working at Calvary Bruce Public Hospital in Canberra are celebrating after the Union won funding for an expanded Medical Imaging service.

HSU members’ strength and dedication has paid off, with the recognition of the Calvary Public Hospital Bruce Medical Imaging service in the latest ACT Budget.

Members and representatives met with the ACT Minister of Health Rachel Stephen-Smith last year to discuss ongoing concerns around workloads and underfunding in the Medical Imaging Department at Calvary Public Hospital Bruce. They presented a detailed brief to the Minister to request Budget funding allocation for 24/7 staffing.

The outcome? The funding was approved!

HSU Secretary Gerard Hayes and Assistant Secretary Lynne Russell joined members and Minister Stephen-Smith to make the announcement. Funding was also allocated for additional wardspersons and nursing staff, significantly reducing workloads.

As organiser Mark Jay points out, the increased funding will not only mean extra hours for staff, but also significantly reduced fatigue and WHS concerns.

Congratulations to the members who are celebrating the win!
