The HSU continues to assist financial members by providing a Bereavement Benefit payment upon their death to their next of kin in this time of need.

Benefit for HSU Members
The purpose of this policy is to provide a $5,000 payment to a deceased financial member’s next of kin. While the payment might be used to pay for the member’s funeral, it could also be used for rent assistance, outstanding bills, credit cards etc.
Members will be covered for accidental death and illnesses. This includes pre-existing illnesses.
Terms and Conditions
The benefit ceases at the age of 70.
To be entitled to the benefit of the policy, you must be an eligible financial member of the HSU at the time of death.
An eligible financial member is a person who has paid full current dues or is on direct debit or payroll deductions or has an approved waiver of HSU fees (excluding an unemployment waiver).
No Benefit will be payable where the cause of the claim is suicide occurring in the first thirteen (13) months after the HSU joining date.
