Aged Care industry wage rise a ‘great outcome’ but ‘well overdue’

Sky News Australia, 16 March 2024

Health Services Union Secretary Gerard Hayes says the Aged Care industry receiving a wage rise of up to 28 per cent is “long overdue”.

Mr Hayes joined Sky News Australia presenter Ortenzia Borre to discuss the benefits and empowerment of a properly funded workforce.

“It is a great outcome for the vast majority of workers in health who are women,” he said.

“It is really important we note at the moment that the average superannuation balance for women working in Aged Care is $18,000.

“So having a wage increase between 18 and 28 per cent brings them into a competitive market with health facilities across the country.”
