Aboriginal Health Workers: Meeting about the future of your profession

You are invited to a state-wide zoom meeting open to all Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners on Wednesday 26 July at 9:00am.

Aboriginal Health Workers have been underpaid, under-supported and overworked for far too long. There is no clear clarity and strategy around scope of practice, with inconsistency based entirely on which LHD you work in.

This impacts the care our communities and consumers receive. We cannot allow this disadvantage to continue. It’s not a situation we can change as individuals, but with the power of collective advocacy we can have a voice capable of making change.

The HSU Aboriginal Health Workers Committee is a member-led group made up of fantastic, dedicated HSU representatives working hard to advocate for improved pay, working conditions and respect. The Committee wishes to update the workforce on all the fantastic work being undertaken and how you can be involved to have your say.

The HSU has been working closely with NAATSIHWP and have invited them to attend our meeting. The HSU has a proud history of reforming the Federal Award for non-public sector AHWs with support from NAATSIHWP and will continue this close relationship into the future.

With award reform on the table, the AHW HSU Committee has a real window of opportunity to advocate for real change and better working conditions for your workforce.

The HSU AHW Committee is calling you to be a part of change. This is our time to have our voice heard as a powerful collective of AHWs so that we can take care of the communities we live and work in for generations to come.
