HSU Win: Kurri Kurri Hospital Rehab Unit

Physiotherapy members working at Kurri Kurri Rehabilitation Unit have been understaffed for a number of weeks, working 1.0FTE short.

A request was made to recruit and cover this shortfall; however, management told HSU members the budget did not support recruitment of 1.0FTE and they wanted to reduce the staffing profile at Kurri Kurri.

HSU members immediately disputed this. Understaffing is a safety issue for the workforce and for patients.

HSU members have now been advised that the matter had been reviewed and the recruitment of 1.0FTE was approved.

You don’t have to accept understaffing. Because of the actions HSU members took, physiotherapy staffing at Kurri Kurri Rehab will not be reduced. This is a great win and shows what we can do when we stick together and demand better.
