After members took strong action yesterday we have achieved progress in ending the use of for-profit labour hire companies at Westmead. After a management meeting, the following commitments were made:

1)     An agreement to completely phase out for-profit labour hire workers by the end of 2022

2)     Weekly updates provided to HSU on contractor numbers, which will be shared with the membership

3)     Overtime will be offered to members who wish to take it up it from 26 September 2022 and will be visible on rosters from 12 September

4)     Conditional offers will be made to new staff to speed up recruitment

These changes are critical to improve the working conditions of members at Westmead. Labour-hire cleaners per day will have already been reduced from 61 to 45. HSU will meet with management again when overtime is established to ensure that it is fair and equitable.
