Radiography at RPA maintain locker access during refurbishment

A refurbishment of the RPA radiography locker area and change rooms is currently taking place. At considerable cost, and while some clinical spaces have remained untouched for years, this area is being redecorated. Radiographers recently came to work to find a notice that lockers would be moved and change rooms would be unavailable from the following day for an unspecified time. Half the lockers had already been moved without a new location given.

This is not consultation. Management should have approached staff with a clear plan, timelines, and a request to discuss the impact of this change. This the bare minimum to meet consultation requirements while demonstrating concern for the needs of staff.

The HSU instantly contacted management to put this issue into dispute. This requires any change to stop until the issue is resolved. Management didn’t even acknowledge the email, but they did ensure lockers and changing room space was available to staff. The renovations themselves have also halted. They won’t admit it, but everything stopped after union intervention. Just a coincidence?

Management are required to consult over any change to your work conditions, but unfortunately they don’t always fulfil these responsibilities. That’s when the collective strength of the union comes into play. When we come together as workers, we can demand to be heard.

If you are going through any work change (especially if you don’t feel you have been consulted), contact your organiser Andrei Bilic at 0417 134 715 or [E-Mail not displayed].

Do you know someone who isn’t an HSU member? Encourage them to join our Union today and have a say at work. We are always stronger when we stand together.
