RPA: Proposed centralisation of Porter Service

SLHD is proposing to centralise Royal Prince Alfred Hospital’s Porter Service by consolidating the Radiology Porters with General Porters into a centralised service under the management of Clinical Support Services.

Under this proposal, the following changes would take place:

  • Radiology Porters transfer to the General Porters Service, with all staff transferring at-level.
  • Radiology Porters come onto a 24/7 roster.
  • Radiology Porters assume the full scope of General Porter duties, including performing mortuary and helipad duties.
  • All staff in the new centralised service transition to a single position description for General Porters. Although General Porters often provide backfill to Radiology Porters, the draft position description is to be updated to formalise the inclusion of Radiology within the scope of patient transfers to be undertaken by General Porters.
