HSU members want to take action for a fair wage increase

I spoke to you on Tuesday this week about the NSW Government’s failure to respond to our calls for a real and meaningful pay rise for health workers.

Health workers are struggling, and they need a proper increase. Over the last two years health workers have received 2.34% in pay rises. The cost of living went up by 4.5%. This means health workers have experienced a pay cut in real terms.

The truth is, you can’t trust this government. They’ll sing your praises when it’s convenient, but they won’t recognise the important and complex work you do every day.

I’ve had a gutful, and so have our members. In the past 24 hours, thousands of members have responded to our survey about taking action. An overwhelming 98% have pledged support.

It’s time for us to hold this government accountable. Over the next few days, I want you all to start having serious conversations with your workmates about what you’re prepared to do to secure a real and meaningful pay rise.

The decision to take action is never taken lightly, but this government has shown it is not prepared to listen. Let’s make them listen.
