Public Health Pay Offer + HSU Win at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

This week, the HSU received an offer from the Ministry of Health regarding your 2021 wage increase. Please let us know what you think.

We won!

The Union has secured an agreement with management at RPA which ensures Social Workers are afforded a consecutive 8 hour break from the end of their call out. This win could affect all health workers doing call out work- not just social workers. If you believe you are not getting your correct entitlement, please contact our Member Services Division (MSD) on 1300 478 679.

That means that if you are a Social Worker who is recalled to work, you are entitled a consecutive 8 hour break from the end of your call out-duties. If you do not receive a consecutive 8 hour break in such circumstances, then you are entitled to double time for the period worked without your break!

This agreement has been successfully implemented as of 19 April 2021, and the Union has secured agreement for backpay for previously impacted social workers.

This win belongs to the union members who fought for it, and just goes to show how powerful collective action can be!

Know someone who isn’t yet a member of the HSU? A stronger union membership in the workplace gives us more power to push for the changes you want to see. Encourage your workmates to join online at or call 1300 478 679.

In unity,

Gerard Hayes

Secretary, HSU NSW/ACT/QLD
