Ron Middleton VC Gardens: your rights around medication

Members at RSL Lifecare Ron Middleton VC Gardens recently raised concerns about an all-staff text message sent from the facility management. The message to all CSEs was that “the expectation is that all CSEs are medication competent.”

This may be the preference of management, but it is not a requirement of your existing role unless your contract specifically states that you are required to give medications.

Your HSU Organiser has written to management to request they inform all CSEs that completing the medication competency module and administering medications is only with the agreement of staff who don’t have an explicit requirement in their contract, and staff have the right to refuse without disadvantage.

This is an example of why it’s important to belong to your union. HSU members get accurate advice and information, and we stand together to make sure our rights are protected.
