"We need to get this right" - Disability Update

The disability support workforce in regional areas is at breaking point and workers need urgent change if they’re to continue providing first rate care for our country’s most vulnerable.

Change needs to occur if the NDIS is to survive in regional, rural and remote areas, allowing providers to stay afloat and ensuring the sector can attract and retain workers.

That’s why the HSU made a submission to the NDIS Regional, Remote and Rural Inquiry in March, drawing on the responses of more than 500 HSU members working in disability services outside our capital cities.

These first-hand accounts from HSU workers will go a long way to informing the inquiry in how to goes about fixing the problem affecting regional areas.

No one - worker or participant - should be disadvantaged by their location or their distance from a major city. It’s important HSU members continue to advocate for reliable funding and resourcing to ensure this!
