And we’re back: HSU aged care hearings from next week

For years, HSU members have been calling for better pay across the aged care sector, to properly reflect the complex, difficult and important work that all aged care workers do, every single day.

In 2020, HSU members working in aged care decided that something had to be done.

With an immense effort from members around the country, the HSU launched our Work Value Case – an argument in the Fair Work Commission to show that all aged care workers deserve a 25% increase to award rates, to recognise the work that you do and to ensure that aged care can attract and retain skilled, compassionate workers.

Last year we learned that HSU members had successfully won an interim increase of 15% for workers in care roles. Members celebrated as this was added to pay packets from this June 30.

However, that wasn’t the end. The Commission made it clear in its ruling that it would schedule further hearings to consider a) whether workers should be awarded a further increase and b) whether workers who had been left out of this interim decision should also receive an increase.

These hearings will finally begin again from next Monday.

HSU members just like you will be giving evidence to show why we believe all aged care workers should be awarded the full 25% increase that we’ve fought for all along.

Well done to the amazing aged care workers giving evidence!
