Manning Base Hospital: Members demand staffing plan

Yesterday the Manning Base Sub Branch met to discuss issues affecting HSU members.

Serious concerns were raised with management’s plan to open an additional nine beds in the next few weeks without consulting with HSU members.

HSU members have used up their goodwill, shouldering extra workload with no additional resources. We’ve seen too many new services opened without any new staffing commitment.

Members at yesterday’s meeting voted unanimously to write to management and demand to see their workforce plan for the new beds across all HSU classifications. You can read the letter here.

Members also resolved to call on management to make the current Afternoon Infectious Cleaner position a permanent fixture.

Management have been given until October 27 to respond to these demands.

Members at Manning Base should be applauded for calling this out. We cannot have additional beds and services without the additional workforce to support it.

Do you know someone who isn’t an HSU member? Encourage them to join our Union today and have a say at work. We are always stronger when we stand together.
