Our Lady of China: Alkira Gardens Proposed Changes

Our Lady of China, Alkira Gardens has recently directed care staff to commence cleaning responsibilities when working on afternoon shift.

According to a text message sent to staff, Alkira Gardens have directed Carers to undertake cleaning tasks, such as mopping, currently being undertaken by contract cleaners.

Your Enterprise Agreement, linked here, has clear provisions requiring consultation with staff about major workplace changes. Your employer must notify you and your employee representative of the proposed change and discuss the effects the change will have.

The HSU has written to Alkira Gardens management, requesting the changes to your role be explained in writing, including all relevant information concerning the changes and the impact it will have on Carers working afternoon shift.

Consultation is an important workplace right!

Your Organiser, Renee Sheridan will be visiting Alkira Gardens on Tuesday 20 June 2023 to discuss this matter. Members are encouraged to share their views and the impact this change will have on your role, and the residents you care for. Please see Renee in the staffroom from 12:30pm to discuss.

Alternatively, members are encouraged to contact Renee at [E-Mail not displayed] if you have any questions.

Only HSU members will be supported by the union through the process, so now is the time to encourage your colleagues to join the HSU. We are always stronger when we stand together.
