RFBI Glen Innes: Proposed closure of the Memory Support Unit

The HSU has been contacted by senior management regarding the proposed closure of the Memory Support Unit. Management have advised the Union that the closure has been discussed during a staff meeting and that impacted staff will have the opportunity to have one on one meetings with management. You can view the correspondence here.

As with any workplace change, you have rights:

  1. You have the right to be consulted about the change! Consultation includes time to consider the change, to raise concerns, and to have those concerns properly considered.
  2. You have the right to say NO! Contracted hours cannot be cut without your approval. Cuts to jobs can occur, but only with a redundancy or redeployment to a comparable position.
  3. You have the right to representation! Ensure you are represented by the HSU when discussing major workplace change.
  4. You have the right to request any changes to your job be provided in writing and time to consider your response. Don’t feel rushed. Major changes to your job can have lasting impacts for you and your family.
  5. You have the right to join the HSU! Only HSU members get representation and advice to stand up for their rights and protect their job.

This is also an opportunity to review the hours you have been regularly working. A casual regularly working more than 6 months without covering leave may be entitled to permanent part time. Permanent part time staff regularly working over their contracted hours for more than 12 months without covering leave are entitled to have these hours added to their contract.

You can contact your HSU organiser on 0408 164 519 or [E-Mail not displayed] if you need to speak to her.

Now is the time to encourage all your workmates to join – not only to protect their rights, but to improve the workplace and the Aged Care industry. They can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or phone 1300 478 679.
