The evidence is in - now we take our fight to Canberra

Today, we have taken one step nearer to winning our Fight For 25 - our historic Work Value Case to increase wages by 25%.

At 4pm today, HSU lawyers filed our evidence to the Fair Work Commission. It’s taken thousands of pages after hundreds of hours of interviews, but it’s done!

I want to thank every single member who has made a written statement. You have spoken up for the hundreds of thousands of aged care workers who deserve to be properly valued and paid for the work you do. You are now part of our Union’s history – the workers who led the Fight For 25.

So, what next?

Many employers have told me that they support a wage increase but are worried about funding. Employers will now get a chance to say that publicly and will file their evidence in August.

But we can’t – and won’t – wait till then. Our Fight For 25 is only part of the solution to fixing aged care. We need better resourcing, more staff, greater transparency. We need the Federal Government to take responsibility and Change Aged Care.

Will you join me in Canberra on 10 May?

Many of you responded to my last email to be involved in the next stage of our campaign as we focus on the Federal Government. I want to take busloads of members to Canberra before the Federal Budget, to tell Scott Morrison and his government that it’s time to Change Aged Care.

If you want to jump on a bus to Canberra or would like to know more, email [E-Mail not displayed] with your name and suburb.

If you know someone who isn’t a union member, tell them about the HSU Work Value Case and our buses to Canberra. HSU members stand up and fight for a better aged care system every day. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au or by calling 1300 478 679.

Finally, have a wonderful Easter.  A huge thank you for those of you who will be working to care for our older Australians.
