In June, HSU members stood up against Opal’s changes to annual leave accrual and in a Full Bench Decision of the Fair Work Commission won a landmark victory.
This decision means that Opal aged care employees who work outside the ordinary hours of a day worker, are entitled to additional annual leave.
Opal has told the HSU they have completed a review of employees’ entitlements over the past six years, and that they have sent correspondence to all current team members who were entitled to receive additional annual leave and leave loading.
The HSU is actively reviewing Opal’s response to ensure shiftworkers are given their correct leave entitlements.
