HSU Win at Lismore Base Hospital

Late last week, HSU members at Lismore Base Hospital met to discuss hospital management’s decision to open Ward C6 without genuine consultation. Members attending the meeting voted to implement bans effective immediately.

NNSWLHD management wrote to the HSU Sub Branch Executive seeking an urgent disputes resolution meeting, which was subsequently held on Friday 11 June.

HSU delegates and representatives outlined members’ position and proposed a series of staffing enhancements necessary to facilitate appropriate patient care. The delegates also called upon NNSWLHD to conduct a risk assessment on C-Block as a matter of urgency and to involve the HSU Sub Branch President, as well as commencing regular consultation meetings with the HSU Sub Branch regarding to all future refurbishments being undertaken in the hospital before they are actioned.

As a result of HSU action, NNSWLHD management has agreed to HSU demands and formally committed to staff enhancements. You can view their letter to Sub Branch President Link Smith at this link

The HSU congratulates members at the Lismore Base Hospital for supporting each other and your community in taking this action. By standing together, you have brought about positive change.
