Scalabrini The Village: Know Your Rights

I understand many of you are experiencing great stress and pressure around workplace change, especially due to the timeframe proposed by your management. However, your management is required to consult thoroughly and properly and you should be given every opportunity to engage in this process.

To those of you who attended the union Zoom meeting last night, thank you for your involvement in the collective action and your courage to stand up and fight back.

To assist you and your colleagues during this time here is some useful information about your rights during major workplace change. You have the right to:

  • Be consulted about the change. Consultation includes time to consider the change, to raise concerns, and to have those concerns properly addressed.
  • Say No. Contracted hours cannot be cut without your approval. Cuts to jobs can occur, but only with a redundancy or redeployment to a comparable position.
  • Representation! Ensure you are represented by the HSU when discussing major workplace change.
  • Request any changes to your job be provided in writing and time to consider your response. Don’t feel rushed. Major changes to your job can have lasting impacts for you and your family.
  • Join the HSU! Only HSU members get representation and advice to stand up for their rights and protect their job. Join now online www.hsu.asn.au/join or phone 1300 478 679.

Please contact your local organiser Hyojung Kim on [E-Mail not displayed] or 0458 012 322 as soon as possible if you need advice or representation.

If you know a work mate who is not a member yet, encourage them to join the union. Joining is easy – new members can join online at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679. We are stronger when we stand together.
